⚽ Group Stage · 3 Teams per Group

📌 Groups & Round‑Robin

16 groups (A through P), each containing 3 teams. Every team plays two matches (one against each opponent). Win = 3 points, draw = 1 point, loss = 0 points.

⏱️ Group match dates: June 11 – June 27, 2026
🎯 Top two from each group + 8 best third‑placed teams → 32 teams advance to Round of 32.

🎯 Qualification Details

Unlike the previous 32‑team format (top two only), the 2026 format introduces a "third‑place" advancement path: the top two from each group (32 teams) automatically qualify, while the remaining 8 spots go to the 8 best third‑placed teams among all 16 groups.

Third‑placed teams are ranked by: points, then goal difference, goals scored, fair play points, and drawing of lots.

📈 Group Ranking · Advancement Order

🏅 Top Two Ranking Criteria

  1. Points obtained;
  2. Goal difference;
  3. Goals scored;
  4. Head‑to‑head results (points, GD, goals scored) – only if two teams tied;
  5. Fair play points (yellow = -1, indirect red = -3, direct red = -4, yellow+direct red = -5);
  6. Drawing of lots.

🥉 Best Third‑placed Teams

The 16 third‑placed teams are ranked together. The 8 teams with the highest points advance to the Round of 32. If points are equal, tiebreakers are:

  1. Goal difference;
  2. Goals scored;
  3. Fair play points;
  4. Drawing of lots.

(No head‑to‑head comparison between third‑placed teams because they come from different groups.)

📋 Knockout Bracket (based on seeding)

The Round of 32 pairings follow a fixed bracket determined by group ranking and a pre‑defined path. Generally, group winners face third‑placed teams or runners‑up from other groups. The exact matchups are announced after the group stage to prevent early rematches between teams from the same group.

Note: The official bracket ensures balanced strength distribution across both halves of the draw.
⚖️ Tiebreaker Rules · When Points Are Equal

📌 Two or More Teams Tied

When two or more teams in the same group have equal points, the following criteria are applied (in order):

  1. Goal difference in matches between the tied teams (mini‑league);
  2. Goals scored in matches between the tied teams;
  3. Overall goal difference in all group matches;
  4. Total goals scored in all group matches;
  5. Fair play points (fewer deductions better);
  6. Drawing of lots.

✔ If three teams are tied, their results against each other form a mini‑league. If still level, proceed to overall GD, and so on.

🃏 Fair Play Point Deductions

Deduction system per match:

  • First yellow card: -1 point
  • Indirect red card (second yellow): -3 points
  • Direct red card: -4 points
  • Yellow card + direct red: -5 points

A single player’s multiple infractions in one match are not cumulative; only the highest deduction applies.
